Vertigo. The blanket diagnosis given when someone experiences dizziness. A common type is called Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo (BPPV) otherwise known as having crystals in your inner ear. This is an easy fix with a maneuver and should take no more than a couple treatments when performed correctly. However, the search for pathology/disease begins when there are no crystals and you still experience the dizziness. This is a very important step in the diagnostic process, including CAT scans and/or MRI, as more serious problems should be ruled out.
Once they are ruled out there is a sigh of relief met with a degree of frustration. Fortunately, there is no tumor or disease but you are still left with the dizziness that there doesn’t seem to be a treatment for. This is a common scenario seen in my office with my patients that suffer from vertigo or what is sometimes better described as a loss of equilibrium. The world may spin around you, you may spin in the world, or they may be no spinning at all but you feel a sense of being “not right”.
The upside to this is that there is a light at the end of the tunnel. Chiropractic Craniopathy practiced by a SOT® certified practitioner has a systematic method in helping patients that suffer from this condition. Craniopathy is the study and treatment of the skull when relating to various symptoms including vertigo, loss of equilibrium, TMJ problems, headaches, migraines, eye pain, teeth sensitivity, and so much more.
