A recent poll found that 43% of Americans rarely or never get a good night's sleep. More than 60% say they experience a sleep problem every night (i.e. waking at night, waking up too early, or feeling tired when they get up in the morning).

Center for Disease Control called insufficient sleep a public health epidemic. Not only lack of sleep can lead to accidents (e.g. driving), but it has been shown that sleep insufficiency is associated with chronic diseases such as diabetes, hypertension, depression, and obesity, as well as cancer, increased mortality, and reduced quality of life and productivity.
